Jimmy Eat World is an American rock band formed in Mesa, Arizona, United States, in 1993. The band is composed of lead guitarist/lead vocalist Jim Adkins, drummer Zach Lind, rhythm guitarist/vocalist Tom Linton, and bassist Rick Burch. Jimmy Eat World has released ten studio albums, the last nine featuring the current lineup.
The four-piece's commercial breakthrough came with the successful release of several singles from the album Bleed American (2001). Four singles from the album charted within the top twenty positions of the Alternative Songs chart, with "The Middle" reaching the number one position.
Bleed American was re-released as Jimmy Eat World following the September 11 attacks on New York and Washington, D.C., which took place seven weeks after its initial release. It was the first album I heard by them and is probably one of my favourite albums. Even approaching 20 years later I still often give it a listen.
Less rocky and punk, I am sharing Here You Me which is one of my favourite songs by them. It is rumoured that the song is about Mykel and Carli Allen, two women who ran the Weezer fan club. They died in a car accident driving back from a Weezer concert; they would always say "hear you me." The two women would often look for up-and-coming bands and would give them a place to stay. It is a great song with some touching lyrics.
