Beans On Toast - Watching The World Go By

Beans On Toast is the stage name of British folk singer Jay McAllister from Braintree, Essex, who rose to prominence out of the UK folk scene in 2005. His song writing openly deals with the topics of politics, drugs and love. Beans On Toast has released eleven studio albums, traditionally releasing a new record each year on 1 December, McAllister's birthday.

Embarking on the folk music scene in 2005, Beans On Toast has performed at the Glastonbury Festival every year since 2007. He supported Kate Nash at London's Hammersmith Apollo in 2008, before releasing his debut 50-track double album Standing On A Chair in 2009. Produced by Ben Lovett of Mumford & Sons, it featured guest vocals by Emmy The Great, Frank Turner and members of The Holloways, amongst others. It was Beans who encouraged Frank Turner to embark on a solo career and has gone on to support him at many shows throughout the years.

His most popular song, probably due to the content and title is "M. D. M. Amazing", but there is so much more to his music. I tend to try and avoid mixing music and politics so have gone from Watching The World Go By which is a nice little song that makes me smile. "Well today feels like a Bob Marley song...."

Well today feels like a Bob Marley song
I got the afternoon off, there's nothing going on
My head is in the clouds and the sun is in the sky
Watching the world go by

And you have to admit that it looks fantastic
There’s so many reasons to be optimistic
Savouring the moment of just being alive
Watching the world go by

But this is not a competition, it isn't a race
I got a spring in my step and a smile on my face
A head full of hopes and a hand full of dreams
A heart so full that it's bursting at the seams
And I’m watching the world go by

I might drink a little wine, I might smoke a little weed
Go down to the river and see where it leads
There's no such thing as killing time
Watching the world go by

And it feels so good just to unplug
You know sometimes it's best to turn that shit off
Her mother liked the movement of a butterfly
Watching the world go by
