City Saints feat Peter Bywaters - Peter and the Test Tube Babies on the Radio

City Saints are a working class street punk band from Gothenburg, Sweden who've been together since 2012 and have released 4 albums and a string of singles and list amongst their influences the likes of Sham 69, Cock Sparrer, Slade, Motorhead, Little Richard, Chuck Berry etc...

They've a new EP out which they have recorded songs with Peter Bywaters to do a split with one of their favorite bands: Peter & the Test Tube Babies!
The A side contains the great Hommage "Peter & the Test Tube Babies on the Radio"...a straight forward Punk meets RocknRoll anthem that kicks ass and mixes exactly the classic PTTB sound with the well known City Saints trademark! A really great hommage!

The Interrupters - She's Kerosene

The Interrupters are an American ska punk band formed in Los Angeles, California, in 2011. The band comprises Aimee Interrupter on lead vocals, Jesse Bivona on drums, Justin Bivona on bass, and Kevin Bivona on guitar. They have released three albums. The latest, Fight the Good Fight, was released in 2018, along with the album's lead single, "She's Kerosene".

It's the lead single that I am going with. A nice little happy and dancey ska punk singalong, it sounds like a mix of Rancid and The Distillers (sorry, Tim) and it will be no surprise that they are signed to Hellcat Records.

Green Day - Stuck with Me

Some bands need no introduction, but Green Day is an American pop punk rock band formed in the East Bay of California in 1987 by lead vocalist and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong and bassist and backing vocalist Mike Dirnt. For much of the band's career, they have been a trio with drummer Tré Cool, who replaced John Kiffmeyer in 1990 prior to the recording of the band's second studio album, Kerplunk (1991). Touring guitarist Jason White became a full-time member in 2012, but returned to his role as a touring member in 2016.

Green Day was originally part of the late 80s-early 90s punk scene at the DIY 924 Gilman Street club in Berkeley, California. The band's early releases were with the independent record label Lookout! Records. In 1994, their major label debut Dookie, released through Reprise Records, became a breakout success and eventually shipped over 10 million copies in the U.S. Green Day is credited alongside fellow California punk bands NOFX, Sublime, Bad Religion, the Offspring, and Rancid with popularizing mainstream interest in punk rock in the U.S.

Though the albums Insomniac (1995), Nimrod (1997), and Warning (2000) did not match the success of Dookie, they were still successful with the former two reaching triple platinum status while the latter achieved gold.

Those that know me, know that Insomniac is my favourite Green Day album. It has a bit more of a raw feel for me, a heavier sound and bleaker lyrics than its predecessor, Dookie.

Before the name Insomniac was decided on, the band considered naming the album Jesus Christ Supermarket and Tight Wad Hill. Insomniac was originally the working title song for "Brain Stew" on demo. After visiting collage artist Winston Smith for the album cover, Billie Joe Armstrong asked him how he managed to make such intricate pieces in such short times. Smith answered: "It's easy for me. I am an insomniac." Armstrong himself has said that the album title comes from his own insomnia, after having been woken up frequently during the night due to his son’s screams. Armstrong also mentions his insomnia from the perspective of methamphetamine use in the song "Brain Stew".

The song I am sharing is Stuck with Me which was released as the second single and third track from Insomniac. Originally this song was titled "Alright" on demo and later "Do Da Da". The song is about being too weak and too much of a push-over to stand up for yourself.

Touche Amore - Benediction

Touché Amoré is an American post-hardcore band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 2007. The band consists of vocalist Jeremy Bolm, guitarists Clayton Stevens and Nick Steinhardt, bassist Tyler Kirby, and drummer Elliot Babin. Among other releases, they have released five studio albums.

I am going with Benediction from their album Stage Four. The album’s title refers to the fact that it is the band's fourth album as well as singer Jeremy Bolm's mother dying from cancer which is the central inspiration for most of the album's lyrics. There’s a song on the record called “Eight Seconds” about Touché Amoré playing Fest in Gainesville and then Jeremy walking off stage and learning his mum had passed away.

Stage Four is an unbelievable record and possibly the most emotionally resonant hardcore album I’ve ever heard. If I’m gonna listen to Touché, I’m gonna listen to Stage Four.

Benediction is the centrepiece of the album, where Bolm works out that grief less with the raspy scream for which he's known and more with a sombre voice over cascading, hum-like guitars.

In this video, Bolm goes to his mother's hometown, where, against corn fields and long buildings and even longer grey skies, he contemplates the place that inspired her to leave.

"'Benediction' tells the story of my brother and I driving to Norfolk, Neb., to bury my mother's ashes," Bolm writes. "It's a small farm town north of Omaha. Touché Amoré started our last tour in Nebraska, so I flew out early and made this with Chris Willmore filming and Sean Stout editing.

If you can face the emotional rollercoaster then give the album a listen.

Dropkick Murphys - Sunshine Highway

Dropkick Murphys are an American Celtic Punk band formed in Quincy, Massachusetts, in 1996. The band was initially signed to independent punk record label Hellcat Records, releasing five albums for the label, and building a reputation locally through constant touring and yearly St. Patrick's Day week shows, held in and around Boston. The band's final Hellcat release was 2005's The Warrior's Code and this is my favourite album by them.

I am going with Sunshine Highway which is a great uplifting song that reminds you of what an Irish party can be!

Kill The Colossi - Our Way Home

Kill The Colossi are a Bournemouth based Street Punk band who formed in 2015 and combine gritty with catchy whilst being poppy enough to make them stand out from the crowd. They are a band that write well thought out hard hitting tunes, have an ever growing fan base (they've recently been added to the bill for Rebellion 2020) and a very impressive body of work.

Our Way Home is the latest addition to it and is a look back at days gone by. Reflections on times long gone and streets once walked. Friendship and family, memories often formed through the bottom of a glass, good old days. But there's also the realisation that those times have passed, people grow older and the future must be embraced. Life is great, make new memories.

Red City Radio – Show Me On The Doll Where The Music Touched You

Red City Radio is an American punk rock band from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, formed in 2007. The band's line up consists of Garrett Dale, Ryan Donovan, Jonathan Knight and Dallas Tidwell. They have released 3 full length albums and a number of EPs.

The song I am sharing today is Show Me On The Doll Where The Music Touched You. It’s a slow builder which is a bit of a change of pace from their other songs but bear with it as it builds and builds. There are the beautifully gruff lead vocals, the classic Red City Radio guitar solo in the middle which leads into the bridge and the lyrics of the bridge are brilliant. ‘We're redefining the word impossible, we’re standing up for what we feel is right, I am fucking unstoppable, I am a fucking juggernaut.’ Always manages to feel great and uplifting.
