The Blinders are a three-piece "alternative" group from Doncaster. The band attempts to be in your face at all times, smelting loud and visceral political punk rock with enigmatic, psychedelic poetry and tones. I say "alternative" group as it is difficult to pin a genre on them. They will be forever linked with a good friend that introduced me to them. Unfortunately he passed away early last year and The Blinders were the last gig that I went to with him. He was a big advocate for them and was on first name terms with the band. They even attended his funeral and travelled from a show on mainland Europe to do so.
Their sound reminds me of a rockier Arctic Monkey's and I have gone with the Stones influenced Rat In A Cage. It offers a shimmer of light, Tom Haywood euphorically singing "come together we need each other”, harmonica sounds filtering through. The record is called Columbia and is named after the utopia Charles Manson promised his family. 'Columbia' was always going to be a dark and twisted record depicting the negatives of society, yet it’s not all doom and gloom. A beacon for a better life, 'Columbia' is The Blinders’ manifesto for a new world order.
They are a great band who put on a brilliant show and well worth checking out if you haven't already.
A vision of walking around and imagining my Walkman headphones were actually giant speakers accompanying me forcing the world into dancing and performing their tasks to my music. If I had giant speakers up in the sky blasting my own music then everywhere I went people would have to listen to my music and the world would have a uniform emotion, a sort of interconnectedness. Like an unrelenting soundtrack to which everyone must acquiesce… These are my speakers in the sky.
