The Clash - Stay Free

Okay, so I have decided as part of my new year’s goals to do a blog on music. I already do a Spotify playlist and Facebook group where we post two songs every Sunday, but thought I'd record it all elsewhere also. The aim of this is to try and do something creative and also improve my writing.

My first track has to be The Clash and Stay Free is possibly my favourite song by them. One of the few written and sung by Mick Jones, it is a personal song that Mick wrote about his long friendship with a dubious character. It's about growing up in London and I can resonate with the lyrics to various people. The final lines remind me of a friend that passed away around this time last year. "Have a drink on me. But go easy...step lightly...stay free". The "step lightly" part gives me Goosebumps every time.

I love the first 7 or 8 seconds of the intro. It is what The Clash are all about, but it really is the lyrics that do it for me. What a great influential punk song and way to start a blog!
